Curtain Call Theatre Company Announces: Auditions for The Butler Did It, directed by Justin Wright

Anthony J Lefcourt, a washed up director, has one last chance to show Broadway that he still has what it takes. He plots to stage the perfect who-dunnit play, carefully planning out every detail, even down to making the cast’s reactions as authentic as the audience’s, but when tensions between the cast arise and he’s hit with the threat of blackmail, hints of his murder mystery start to seep into the offstage proceedings as well. This hilarious off-Broadway hit poses a unique problem: When everyone is a Butler, anyone could be the murderer.

Auditions will be held in the basement at Christ’s Family Church, 531 North Baltimore (across from Bellacino’s Pizza).

Wednesday, Feb. 22nd at 7 pm and Saturday, Feb. 25th at 2pm

Auditions will consist simply of cold readings from the script.

The cast calls for 4 males and 2 females and the characters’ ages range from early 20s to mid 60s.

Must be 18 or older to audition

Please bring your March-May schedules so that we can know your available and unavailable dates during the rehearsal process.

The show will go up May 17-20th and between the auditions and the curtain will be a rigorous time of fun rehearsal!

Character List and Descriptions:

Mr. Butler (Robert) Mid 60s, sensitive, proper gentleman in character, forgetful, bigheaded celebrity out of character.

Aldo the butler (Michael) Young, 20-30s, handsome, dark featured and masculine. English and proper in character, Bombastic Italian out of character. Quick to anger and more personality than a cast member from Jersey Shore. Acts as a job, not a passion.

Mrs. Butler (Natalie) Early 40s, enticing and sensual in character, rich and pompous out of character. Starting to get bitter as her stardom dwindles with age, and trying to stay on top as Claudia comes in to steal the show

Miss Butler (Claudia) Early 20s. Strikingly beautiful ingénue type. Competing for sensual dominance, and the spotlight, against Natalie. Will do whatever it takes to be famous.

Anthony J Lefcourt – 40-50s, but youthful and enthusiastic. Almost childlike, a larger than life, flamboyant, egotistical celebrity.

Detective Mumford (Sam) Middle-aged, strict and emotionless in character, a weathered professional out of character. He’s lived and seen a lot and it’s left him a little bitter and bossy, as well as a little clumsy. Possible drinking problem.

Curtain Call will be presenting it’s Christmas production of Christmas on the Radio: It’s a Wonderful Life beginning Thursday, December 8th. Performances will run Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 7 pm with a Sunday matinee on December 11th at 2 pm. All performances will take place at Christ’s Family Church at 531 N. Baltimore.

The production the takes the story from Frank Capra’s classic 1947 film and presents it as an old-time radio drama, complete with improvised sound effects, commercials and vintage music. The adaptation by Liz Zazzi has all the hallmarks fans of the film have come to love: the trials and tribulations faced by small-town banker George Bailey as he lives his daily life, feeling almost insignificant in comparison to events happening around him. It takes a strange twist of fate and some divine intervention to make him see how much he truly has meant to his friends and family.

This adaptation brings new enjoyment to fans of the film and an exciting new experience for those who may not be familiar with the story.

Tickets are available at Beard’s Decorating Center or at the door. Tickets are $8 general admission and $5 for children 12 and under.

7 pm with a Sunday matinee on August 14th at 2 pm. All performances
